The human heart has a desire not only to be loved but also to right wrongs. But when we right wrongs in our own strength instead of the Lord then that is called “Getting Even”.

As you read these two words “Getting Even” are you in the midst of this right now? Has someone wronged or slandered you? Are you holding a grudge against someone that is now hurting you more than the person you hold the grudge against? Has getting even become and obsession that has stolen the joy from your life?

1 Peter 2:23 “When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.”

In this life you will always have problems when you take over where God needs to be. When you hurl insults back and hold a grudge against someone you are in reality saying that you do not trust God to judge justly. Holding a grudge is a great tool that Satan uses. Because before you know it the one who you feel did you harm is now the one who has control over you. Satan used the sin of your unforgiveness to entrap you to unwholesome thinking and unproductive hate. This is NOT from God.

Jesus had every right to retaliate against those who were trying to kill Him. We are the ones who deserved to be on the cross, not Jesus. But in order for us to inherit a place in heaven Jesus had to die for us. He was without sin and God needed a perfect sacrifice for a sinful people. Jesus was able to look past His own pain to the real goal. The salvation of our souls. Today you have a choice. Are you going to wallow in self pity for the way you have or thinking you have been treated? Or are you going to let God be God?

If someone has accused you unjustly then talk to that person and NO ONE ELSE. Gossip is trying to get people on your side to fight the battle. In reality this is a terrible lack of faith. Either you entrust yourself to Jesus who judges perfectly or you do not. In some cases you could spend your whole life trying to clear your name of wrongdoing. You could even bring a thousand people to try to clear your name. BUT FOR WHAT? We need to let go of the arrogance that our name is important. We need to cling to the One whose name we are associated with. The One who can save us from hell and give us eternal glory in heaven.

Luke 6:29 “If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic.”

Today you have a choice. Will you be an arrogant person who is not only afraid to turn the other cheek but thinks that this world owes YOU something? No one owes you anything. The full price has already been paid. The yoke of anger and jealousy that you are trying to put on another is the yoke that will take you down if you do not repent of this sin. Let God take over your life right now. Pray that today you would be set free from an arrogant spirit. Remember we are not owed anything. Jesus gave His life for YOU, that should be enough for us to love and encourage what we think are our enemies. Don’t let Satan keep you trapped in an arrogant spirit by your unforgiveness.

Look for someone to encourage today.
